Willcox, originally known as "Maley" was founded in 1880. It sits 80 miles east of Tucson and was mainly a whistlestop for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
Agriculture still remains an important role in the local economy, but interstate 10 has since replaced the railroad. Willcox is home to Arizona's upcoming wine country and produces 74% of the wine grapes grown in the state of Arizona.
